Koom International is a Davis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that consists of a network of friends who volunteer their time to promote awareness and education of agricultural, water supply, sanitation, renewable energy, social, medical and environmental issues in developing countries with Burkina Faso as its initial target.
Our history is as simple as the molecular formula of water.
A group of young people living the United States and in Burkina Faso have come to realization that the development of Burkina Faso does not emanate from the local government only. After long consideration and surveying the local communities, they have determined that one of the main factors causing the extreme poverty in Burkina Faso is lack of water. Although traversed by three main rivers; Nakambe, Nazino, and Mouhoun, the irregularity of the rainy season causes a water shortage in Burkina Faso, therefore hindering the success of agro-pastoral activities, and health and education of the concerned population. Koom International is created as a response to this issue, and is composed by people with different background and expertise.
Our mission is to alleviate poverty by helping the dynamic populations and existing organizations in Burkina Faso by providing long-term and sustainable solutions to the problem of inefficiency in the agro-pastoral, water and sanitation, education and health domains.
